Before wearing the Mala
Meet your Guruswamy or temple priest, agree on the pilgrimage plan and discuss the observance followed by your group. Obtain the Mala they recommend and clarify the beginning and completion of the vow.
The ceremony
Come clean and prepared for worship. The Mala is received with prayer under the guidance of the priest or Guruswamy. Learn the words and actions from that guide; a household prayer outline does not replace the initiation custom of your group.
After Mala Dharanam
Begin the agreed daily discipline. Keep a regular prayer time, practise restraint and treat the Mala respectfully. Discuss unexpected difficulties with your Guruswamy rather than inventing a corrective ritual.
